Over 100 celebrities invaded the Harare CBD on Thursday October 17, 2013 to raise money for Natasha Sanyanga who needs to be operated in India as she suffers from aplastic anemia.
Aplastic anemia is a condition that is caused by blood disorder in which the bone marrow does not make new blood cells.
If it is not rectified, it can lead to irregular heartbeats, an enlarged heart and even heart failure.
The group was made up of musicians, actors, radio personalities who included Prayer Soul, Tariro negGitare, Ammara Brown, Pretty Xaba, Zimpraise, Clare, Cindy and Big Brother The Chase contestant Pokello Nare.
“When I read a tweet about Natasha’s condition I decided to do something with the resources that were available to give her a better life. Everybody who is here today had to sacrifice a lot and I believe we will be able to raise the funds needed,” said former StarFm DJ Tinopona Katsande who was coordinating proceedings alongside Makosi Msambasi.
Natasha’s father, Mr. Sanyanga said he was really humbled by the support from Katsande and friends to help his daughter.
“It is overwhelming, we never expected this. We thought this would never happen but we grateful to God because people have come through to stand with us.
“So far we have raised $22 000 and the target is $100 000. The money will cater for transport, accommodation and all the medical expenses.
“We will have to stay in India for two months after the operation so that the doctors can asses her,” revealed Sanyanga.
Natasha was diagnosed in September 2013 with the problem and further tests revealed that her bone marrow had totally failed, hence, the need for an operation.
Natasha will be flying out to India on Saturday October 19, 2013 at 3 pm.
