Everton defender Brendan Galloway joins Championship outfit Sunderland on season-long loan move

Brendan Galloway has become new Sunderland manager Simon Grayson’s first signing after completing a season-long loan move from Everton, the Championship club has confirmed.

The Zimbabwe-born 21-year-old, who can play at either centre-half or left-back, headed for Wearside on Tuesday for a medical.

The Black Cats are looking to bolster a squad which has been significantly reduced following the departures of Jordan Pickford, Jermain Defoe and a series of out-of-contract and loan players.

Galloway, who became the youngest man ever to play in League One when he represented former club MK Dons as a 15-year-old, has made 21 senior appearances for the Toffees.

He is expected to be joined on loan at the Stadium of Light by fellow Blues defender Tyias Browning, while winger Aiden McGeady is in advanced talks over a permanent switch.
Sunderland were relegated from the Premier League last season under former boss David Moyes.
