Isheanesu Nyamukapa or ISHE is a young man born and raised in Harare with roots in Murewa, Mashonaland East. He didn’t grow up around professional musicians, rather, his parents would play guitar as a hobby. Growing up, like many of us, he would dress up and “try” to dance and sing like the pop stars he saw on television. Being an animated personality, ISHE passionately would sing and dance in school and at church. He played sport as part of his school’s curriculum but he wasn’t the best athlete, so in his lower sixth form he began playing guitar with his father teaching him his first three chords. He wrote his first song early the following year, 2006, and in his own words it was a colossal flop. By God’s grace he didn’t give up and kept going.
As a Christian, ISHE loved the worship experience and was a member of the worship team at his home church. After high school, at Monash University, he joined the Monash University Christian Society and became a part of the worship band which grew to be called Generation NOW. That band has toured 8 countries around Africa spreading the love of Christ. In all this time he wrote his own music and keeping it to himself, as a somewhat private collection. He stirred up the courage to do an independent album after having graduated from university and Stay in the Light is the result.
This album is a journey through the young man’s life; his experiences, thoughts and emotions. He describes this project as being four years in the making, having started writing the music that’s in the album that long ago. To him, his music has been therapeutic, a powerful way to release his tensions. He hopes that it can do the same for everyone who hears it. After having completed this album, ISHE feels like he can do anything, and sees his future being blessed and bright.
