Castings for the 2013 Miss Zimbabwe have begun with Bindura being the first town to hold the event at Bindura University on March 23. The first castings are held to choose models that will contest in the national finals to be held on July 27.
Miss Zimbabwe Trust executive committee member Karin Davidson said although the turnout was low at their first casting they were happy with the level of competition among the models.
“We conducted our first castings at Bindura University and we are happy with what we saw. The girls were very competitive and obviously one will take the crown,” said Davidson.
Models who took part in the castings were happy with the conduct and said they were ready to represent Zimbabwe.
Miss Zimbabwe Trust committee member Edmore Sakarombe said although they were ready to host the event, they still needed assistance from the corporate world.
There will be a 13-episode reality TV show, which will culminate in the crowning of the Miss Zimbabwe winner.
Chitungwiza conducted its castings last Saturday while Mutare will have the castings this Saturday. Marondera castings will be conducted on Sunday and Chinhoyi next Saturday.
Last year, Miss Bulawayo Bongani Dhlakama, 24, was crowned Miss Zimbabwe 2012 at the national pageant held at the Harare International Conference Centre. The Midlands State University development studies student impressed a judging panel which included ex-Big Brother Africa housemate Munyaradzi Chidzonga.
Bongani had a traumatising reign with her trip to China being the worst.
